Scandinavian boats are always interesting. They are convenient, comfortable, seaworthy and incredibly reliable. Despite the use of the latest technology and design solutions, they are still modest, but will keep you safe, even if you suddenly want to frolic from the heart.
Saxdor Yachts founder Sakari Mattila set out to combine American functionality and Italian style, but at the same time not to exceed the price levels set by the French. If we add Finnish quality to this, then we will get unique universal boats that will always be in demand anywhere in the world.
Indeed, Saxdor boats have already won several awards in various categories, despite the company’s youth. This is to be expected, since Axopar, Paragon and XO, which have long been easily recognizable and very popular in the international market, are distant relatives of Saxdor and were also designed by Sakari Mattila.
The current Saxdor range consists of six models, from 6 to 12 meters. Each model has a certain resemblance to the Axopars with their deep V on the bow, reverse sloped stem and transverse redan. The largest models in the line have closed pilothouses, the vertical glazing of which adds a distinct Scandinavian touch to the Italian style. In addition, fold-down bulwarks with electric drive transform into spacious terraces, a rare luxury for a boat of this size.
All models are equipped with outboard motors, which greatly simplifies their maintenance, repair and replacement of propellers. The last point may be quite relevant for the unpredictable bottom topography near the coastlines in the Baltic.
Of course, the shipyard’s current flagship, the Saxdor 400 GTC, is of greatest interest to us. It’s basically just an extended version of the previous model, the 320 GTC, but the difference in habitability between the two is amazing. This is a lightweight and durable GRP hull designed for two 300hp Mercury V8. With such a power plant, the Saxdor 400 can reach speeds of up to 40 knots. If this is not enough for you, then you can order the installation of racing versions of outboard motors 450 hp each, then your top speed will increase to over 50 knots.
Although it may seem incredible from the outside, the Saxdor 400 has a fairly large forward cabin, toilet and shower with a standing height of 1.83 meters. In addition, you can order custom versions of the yacht with an additional children’s cabin under the gangway and adult cabins amidships.
The wheelhouse occupies the entire width of the hull and has wide sliding doors on both sides. Combined with the fold-down bulwarks, this creates a truly huge open space, making this boat even more unique and set it apart from the competition, if it even has any.
Saxdor yachts, despite the company’s desire to make them as affordable as possible, are still premium class boats, so they will definitely be bought by superyacht owners as tenders or chase boats. It’s as excellent and elegant a way to enjoy your time on the water as it is to sign an autograph with an expensive and very high quality pen.
