Liveaboard Motorship / Clipper Barge 2750
The ‘Klipperaak’ is derived from the Dutch inland clipper and is distinguished from the (inland) clipper by its stern. Instead of a receding stern and the stern behind the rudder stock, the clipperaak has a full and round stern with attached rudder, like the aak or tjalk. This is why the ship originally had no steering wheel but a tiller with which to steer. Because of this full stern, the ship also had a larger aft ship than the clipper, providing more living space for the skipper and his family. Klipperaken were built at several Dutch shipyards between about 1890 and 1930.
Having sailed as a freighter under sail at Goes for many years, between 1995 and 2005 the current owner lengthened the vessel from its original 20m to 27.45m and completely rebuilt it from the original hull.
In the process, the entire superstructure, wheelhouse, engine room and steering gear, navigation equipment, staterooms, all electrics and plumbing were reinstalled with an eye for authenticity, professional quality and high living comfort at the forefront. The result is a beautiful, liveable and perfectly sailing ‘clipper’ barge with a rich history.
The installed ‘Brons’ slow-running diesel engine is the absolute icing on the cake, preserving the authentic sailing characteristics of this ship, albeit without sail mast and centreboard.
On board you imagine yourself in a nautical fairytale world, the living quarters on the ship were carefully decorated with hand carvings in various exotic woods, the East Indian-style decorated owner’s cabin with the hand-carved ‘Kama-Sutra’ panel as the entrance door is to say the least, resourceful.
Any lover of classic ships will hold this ‘Mystique’ in high regard, a visit on board can be arranged by simple appointment with Nauticus Yachting.
